Kuala Lumpur – An Instagram Diary
29The taxi driver is flashing a grin and I do know why. Actually it would have taken only two minutes to walk there and now he’s earning massive on us. Well, planning is not so much my thing. Quite the contrary: I love it when a city or a destination suprises me. Why should I see the top ten sights, when I eventually – without a plan – find even more interesting things. But sometimes this also means to get lost, and sometimes when you’re completely lost and the sun is burning there’s only one solution: taxi. That’s what can happen to you easily in Kuala Lumpur, especially if you think you’re in Little India (which obvisouly exists more than once in KL) and the only map you’ve got is the one in your lonelyplanet guide. But the good thing is: taking a taxi is amazingly cheap in Kuala Lumpur.
More things I’ve seen and did in Kuala Lumpur (besides taxis):
Sultan Abdul Samad Building – Petronas Towers and KL Tower in the background
Even though taxis are cheap, the monorail is cheaper AND faster during traffic.
Petaling Street in Chinatown – full of tourists and people who want to sell stuff
He said his name is CharlEE and he’s waiting for his angels.
@agentcikay @velvetescape and me at the opening party of Nosh, the restaurant of Keith’s sister…
I love rundown buildings and there are many like this in KL
I was pretty impressed by the Petronas Towers…
… but not as impressed as I was by the amount of people who wanted to take a picture of ME…
All together I think Kuala Lumpur is an interesting but very stressful city. And I was glad to leave after 3 days…
Have you been to Kuala Lumpur? Did you like it?

I’ve been to KL a lot and I really like it. I don’t really find it stressful either except when getting ripped off by taxi drivers as inevitably happens. But the food is amazing and there’s so much to explore.
Ja, but getting ripped off by taxi drivers can happen to you everywhere….
And yes, maybe I have to go back one day and explore more of this city…
Schöner Bericht, ich war auch schon da, zwar nur kurz, hab aber doch einiges gesehen.

Tolle Fotos! Danke für den Link!
Have not yet been there — but great photos. Love how you included the “Charlee The Angel” chair photo. It’s definitely unique!
Charlee was amazing!
Great pics…KL has long been near the top of my list. Hope to see the towers in person someday soon:)
The Petronas Towers are really really impressive!
Great post and awesome photos! Been to KL over twenty times as it seems a good launch pad for the rest of my adventures into SEA. What I like about KL is that its just easy. No hassles, good transport and yummy food!
Thank you Peter! Really want to go back to KL and explore more! Especially the food!
Looks amazing…don’t know if I will ever go. Big, stressful cities aren’t exactly my cup of tea (though we just got back from Seoul and LOVED it!)
I’ve never been to Seoul! How is it like?
My first trip to China I was amazed by how much of a celebrity I was. I revisited ten years later.. and it didn’t seem to have changed much! For some reason taking pictures of Vera and I was high up on people’s priority list!
Haha, ja was even crazier in Myanmar. While in KL especially the guys wanted to have pics with us, the girls AND MONKS!! went totally crazy about taking a picture with us in Myanmar!!
KL isn’t on my radar right now but it seems cool.
I went to KL in 2000 and absolutely loved it. Such a lively city with friendly people.
You are correct about the cheap taxis but didn’t mention how long the taxi ride is from the airport to the city, it was about an hour when I went in 2000!
The Petronas Towers are a marvel but I found them even more awe inspiring at night when they are all lit up. They seemed even taller!
True! I think it took us about 45min from the airport to the city and back! And yes, by night they are even more amazing!
After having lived and worked in NYC I’m sure KL will be a lot more chill! I would love to spend more time there…I visited briefly en route to Singapore. Lovely photos!
Haha, this may be true. Haven’t been to NYC yet, but I guess this city is not really chilled
hallo yvonne –
