Chiang Rai in Northern Thailand is not only worth a visit because of its famous White Temple. It’s much quieter than the popular Chiang Mai but Chiang Rai’s night market is equally worth seeing and the city itself has much more to over. You can enjoy regular everday-life in Chiang Rai close to the locals as many tourists only use Chiang Rai as a starting point for trips in the Golden Triangle and normally only stay for one day in the city. Most tourists therefor only see the White Temple and the nighmarket (the famous one, there’re even more not so well-known markets in Chiang Rai). So if you take some time and wander through the streets of Chiang Rai and get lost, you’ll probably find some amazing places in this city. What I liked most about Chiang Rai (besides the best Thai massage I ever had – across the nightmarket) was the incredible sky. Which only can be described with one word: cloudporn.
