Time Travelling Deluxe – Top 7 Vintage Travel Videos

Wouldn’t it be awesomesauce if you could travel through time, just for one day? To another place in another time. If I had to, I would choose time travelling over beaming. Could someone please invent it, please with sugar on top? But ok, meanwhile there’s another option. The Internet! Yes, can you believe this? There are hundreds of amazing travel videos from bygone days. And I’ve spent some hours days to find the best of them. (Caution: addictiveness) Here are my 7 favourite ones:

1. Havana, Cuba 1959

The cool thing about Havana is that IT IS still like this. It’s one of the rare places on earth where you actually can experience how it is to travel through time. But: no chance to get drunk with Hemingway nowadays.

2. San Francisco, USA 1967

The summer of love (which happened in 1967 and NOT in 1969) in the capital of the hippies! Thinking about if I’m really sure about wearing flowers in my hair.

3. Pan Am’s World 1970

You know that I actually don’t like the actual act of travelling, especially flying. But flying like in the year dot, with Pan Am around the world, that’s something completely different. That’s when flying was still glamorous.

4. Scotland, 1953

Please don’t tell anyone but I’m a huge Diana Gabaldon fan. But I’ve never been to Scotland… the day I finally make it there I will find each and every standing stone and stone circle and try to get through one of them to the past.

5. Coney Island, New York 1905

New York is another place I haven’t been yet. YES, I know. But I hope I gonna have as much fun as these boarding school girls in 1905.

6. Paris, France 1936

Oh Paris, you city of lights. I really love this video, especially the commentary although some scenes were cut out. Listen, watch and fall in love.

7. Berlin 1929

On top of my time travelling bucket list is Berlin in the 20ies. For sure. Think we all would love to spend some days in the golden twenties in this amazing city, don’t we?

“Nostalgia is denial – denial of the painful present… the name for this denial is golden age thinking – the erroneous notion that a different time period is better than the one ones living in – its a flaw in the romantic imagination of those people who find it difficult to cope with the present” to quote “Midnight in Paris”. What do you think? Why do we sometimes wish to live or to travel in another time? Or am I the only one?
