Iconic Monuments<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On your first day in Paris, you\u2019re going to be excited.&nbsp; You\u2019ll want to see everything!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve designed your day 1 itinerary to hit many of the top attractions in the City of Light.&nbsp; After all, these iconic monuments are some of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wavesandcobblestones.com\/is-paris-worth-visiting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the best reasons to visit Paris<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Day 1 involves the most walking, nearly 7 km in total.&nbsp; Be sure to take a lot of breaks (caf\u00e9s are handy) or use public transportation for longer distances to make sure you pace yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Seine River Cruise<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The best way to get oriented in Paris is to start your trip with a sightseeing<a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourguide.com\/seine-river-l2601\/bateaux-parisiens-cruise-quick-entry-ticket-t193940\/?partner_id=LWQII61&amp;utm_medium=online_publisher\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> cruise on the Seine River<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a surprising number of iconic Paris attractions lining the banks of the Seine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll see the Eiffel Tower, pass under the elaborate Pont Alexandre III, and admire the Gothic architecture of Notre Dame as you circle the islands in the Seine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several tour companies offer sightseeing Seine cruises; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourguide.com\/paris-l16\/paris-access-eiffel-tower-summit-or-second-level-t438412\/?partner_id=LWQII61&amp;utm_medium=online_publisher\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Eiffel Tower<\/a> is not only one of the most famous landmarks in Paris, but one of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/traveltolyon.com\/famous-france-landmarks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the most famous landmarks in France<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the best views, head over to the Jardin du Trocad\u00e9ro \u2013 it\u2019s just across the Seine from the Tower.&nbsp; Rue Cler is one of the best market streets in Paris, and this neighborhood is my favorite place to stay when I visit Paris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rue Cler is a great place to stop for a break.&nbsp; It\u2019s lined with colorful caf\u00e9s and shops where you can buy cheese, fresh produce, gelato, and more.&nbsp; For a quick bite, enjoy a cr\u00eape or some decadent French pastries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><strong>H\u00f4tel des Invalides<\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The H\u00f4tel des Invalides is one of the most striking buildings in Paris, particularly on a bright day when the sun shines off the gilded dome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The H\u00f4tel des Invalides houses various military museums and is also the site of Napoleon\u2019s tomb.&nbsp; If you\u2019re a fan of military history, you\u2019ll want to take some time to visit the museums.&nbsp; We particularly enjoyed the miniature models of fortresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tip:&nbsp; for the best views, walk to the back (south) side of the H\u00f4tel des Invalides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, head north towards the Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es. While there are several bridges crossing the Seine, you\u2019ll want to cross via the Pont Alexandre III.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pont Alexandre III is the most beautiful bridge in Paris.&nbsp; Take a moment to admire the Beaux-Arts d\u00e9cor with its elaborate lamps and golden statues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es is the most famous street in Paris, stretching from the Place de la Concorde to the Arc de Triomphe.&nbsp; It was commissioned by Napoleon to celebrate French military victories and is home to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cross under the road, and climb to the top of the monument.&nbsp; From here, you\u2019ll enjoy amazing views of the Eiffel Tower.&nbsp; And if you visit at night, you can see the Tower put on its sparkling lights show!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Day 2:&nbsp; Museums &amp; Montmartre<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Your second day in Paris will focus on visiting one of the most famous museums in Paris, and then end the day in Montmartre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Louvre and the Mus\u00e9e d&#8217;Orsay are both amazing museums, so pick which one is best for you.&nbsp; (You certainly can\u2019t visit both on the same day!)&nbsp; It\u2019s a good idea to purchase your museum tickets in advance to save time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Day 2 involves less city walking (only 3-4 km), but you\u2019ll be doing a lot of walking in the museum, which will add up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Louvre<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourguide.com\/paris-l16\/louvre-museum-skip-the-line-entrance-ticket-t145779\/?partner_id=LWQII61&amp;utm_medium=online_publisher\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Louvre <\/a>is the most visited museum in the world and one of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wavesandcobblestones.com\/stop-feeling-guilty-for-loving-these-touristy-paris-attractions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">most popular tourist attractions in Paris<\/a>.&nbsp; &nbsp;Its collections hold nearly 500,000 pieces of art!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you choose to visit the Louvre, do a little homework in advance to identify your \u2018must-see\u2019 artworks.&nbsp; Plan your route to see those pieces first, and then you can browse the vast collection until you run out of steam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the most famous art at the Louvre include paintings such as the&nbsp;<em>Mona Lisa<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>Liberty Leading the People<\/em>, and gorgeous sculptures including the&nbsp;<em>Venus de Milo<\/em>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<em>Winged Victory of Samothrace<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mus\u00e9e d&#8217;Orsay<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-thumbnail\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/www.justtravelous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/musee-orsay-paris-640x640.jpg\" alt=\"Mus\u00e9e d'Orsay - Old Building with large clock and banners on either side of the door\" class=\"wp-image-17792\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re a fan of Impressionist art, then you may want to visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourguide.com\/paris-l16\/orsay-museum-visit-with-digital-audioguide-t589675\/?partner_id=LWQII61&amp;utm_medium=online_publisher\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mus\u00e9e d&#8217;Orsay<\/a> instead.&nbsp; This museum boasts the largest collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art in the world!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This museum is housed inside a former train station, the Gare d\u2019Orsay, with its signature clock.&nbsp; This beautiful park is located just west of the Louvre and across the Seine from the Mus\u00e9e d&#8217;Orsay.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stroll through the tree-lined walkways of the formal gardens, or pull up a chair and rest as you watch the sparkling waters in the fountains.&nbsp; There are a few restaurants in the gardens and plenty of dining options in the blocks north of the Jardin des Tuileries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Montmartre<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Montmartre is one of the most iconic neighborhoods in Paris, and you\u2019ll notice its distinctive vibe.&nbsp; Montmartre has always attracted artists, including notables such as Monet, Renoir, and Toulouse-Lautrec.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll also notice that Montmartre is a hill \u2013 you\u2019ll get a bit of a workout as you make your way through its cobblestoned lanes to the famous Sacr\u00e9-C\u0153ur Basilica.&nbsp; (For an easier visit to Montmartre, take the funicular to the top!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take a moment to visit the \u201cI Love You Wall\u201d in the Square Jehan Rictus.&nbsp; The phrase is written in hundreds of languages across this famed wall, and it can be tricky to find \u201cI Love You\u201d in your language!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><strong>Sacr\u00e9-C\u0153ur<\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-thumbnail\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/www.justtravelous.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/sacre-coeur-paris-640x640.jpg\" alt=\"Sacr\u00e9-C\u0153ur - Large Marble Church with three domes and people enjoying the grass in front of the building\" class=\"wp-image-17794\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The stunning Sacr\u00e9-C\u0153ur Basilica sits atop the hill of Montmartre.&nbsp; &nbsp;From this vantage point, you can enjoy some of the best views of Paris!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This iconic basilica is immediately recognizable for its unique architecture, three domes, and gleaming white exterior.&nbsp; Be sure to tour the inside to see the artworks and the fabulous mosaics of this amazing religious monument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s free to visit the basilica, but you will need to be appropriately dressed.&nbsp; Note: there is a cost to visit the crypt or climb the dome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Day 3: \u00cele de la Cit\u00e9 &amp; Luxembourg Garden<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m a firm believer in not scheduling every moment of your trip!&nbsp; You never know what will grab your attention and draw you in for a closer look.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, for your third day of 4 days in Paris, we\u2019ll hit a few more of the city\u2019s must-see attractions in the morning, and provide \u2018free time\u2019 for you to fill as you wish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maybe you want to spend the afternoon at a smaller museum like the Orangerie or the Mus\u00e9e Rodin.&nbsp; Perhaps you\u2019ve always wanted to see the Paris catacombs or to find famous grave sites at the P\u00e8re Lachaise Cemetery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re a foodie, this is a great opportunity to take a Paris food tour or even a cooking class!&nbsp; Or head over to the Galeries Lafayette or the Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es for some shopping to find the perfect Paris souvenir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Notre Dame Cathedral<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though it is currently closed for renovations from the fire, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.getyourguide.com\/paris-l16\/paris-sainte-chapelle-and-conciergerie-tour-with-tickets-t525225\/?partner_id=LWQII61&amp;utm_medium=online_publisher\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Notre Dame Cathedral<\/a> is still one of my favorite Paris attractions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will have been able to spot the cathedral during your Seine River cruise, but it is certainly worth visiting in person.&nbsp; The cathedral is a magnificent example of French Gothic architecture, with its signature flying buttresses, two towers, stained-glass windows, and gargoyles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cathedral of Notre Dame is scheduled to re-open in December 2024.
